Loveable Smiles Team Is Grateful

Dearest Patients, Family and Friends;Dr. K 2

The theme of our letter this year is Gratitude.  We have so many things to be grateful for in 2019.  We recently celebrated our 13th year in Richardson. We can say with pride that it has been a wonderful year for us and for the Richardson community.  We continue to celebrate being chosen for the 2010 Dallas Business Journal Ethics Award.

We are most grateful for all of the support within our community and for all of the precious referrals from our Loveable Patients.

We have celebrated many weddings, engagements, new babies and vacations with our patients, friends and families throughout this year. We have shared sad occasions, as well, throughout all of this we have continued to have wonderful success stories of the happiness our patients’ Loveable smiles have given them. These stories can be shared on our Loveable Smiles Facebook page.  Please go there and “like” us.

Please continue to check out our website and dental blog to keep up with our latest news and dental information. On that note, we have committed and doubled down to our belief and how important it is to complete your dental health care with Invisalign. That is the best way that your teeth can be in the correct place which protects them from future wear and keeps your gums healthier.

We are improving our office by putting in hospital grade wood floors and new paint.  The Loveable Team:  Tray, Devona, Ariana, and Hana are expertly trained in dentistry and customer service. We have never had a better team, ever! Dr. Korenman is also up to date on laser dentistry which means no shots, no drills, and no pain! We have also added more frenectomies (tongue/ lip tie) newborns and tongue rejuvenation for bad breath with that laser.

What remains the same is that we answer the phone 24/7, listen to our patients, we continue to strive for higher technology and we never ever hurt anyone. Dr. Korenman’s cell phone number is on his card so you can even reach him personally.

Thanks to all your referrals of your friends and family, we are growing and helping many more people. We couldn’t do it without you.

As we are all so busy, please stop for just a minute and remember, “What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked G-d for yesterday?”   May the New Year bring all of you renewed health, continued happiness and the greatest gift of all “peace of mind”.

Yours in Health,

Dr. Larry Korenman and the Loveable Smiles Team

How often should you see your hygienist for dental cleanings?

October is National Dental Hygiene Month.

How often should you see your hygienist for dental cleanings?  Some people may say that you should go every six months, some people may say every 3-4 months, and others may only visit the dental office when they are experiencing pain.

So, which one is right for you?

The answer is not as black and white as you may think…National Dental Hygiene Month image

Dental cleaning frequency is completely dependent upon the patient and their individual needs.

It is the same concept as when someone goes to physical therapy or rehab and the therapist creates a custom program for each individual in order to get them back to health (there is no blanket solution).

Patients who have seen the dentist regularly and practice good oral home care may only need to have a dental cleaning every six months because they have minimal build up and little to no bleeding in the gums.  On the other hand, some patients who have not seen the dentist regularly and/or do not practice good oral home care may need to have their teeth cleaned every 3 to 4 months because they have moderate to severe build up and bleeding in the gums or they have been previously diagnosed with periodontal disease (loss of bone around the teeth).

The goal is to get your teeth cleaned frequently enough to keep the bacterial plaque build up at a minimal level so that either healing can occur or so that the tissues can stay in an optimum state of health.

In order to see what frequency is right for you, you should see your hygienist and discuss what treatment cycle will give your teeth and gums the best outcome.

Every hour, of every day one American dies of oral cancer.

It is assumed that Oral Cancer is mainly a disease of older people, contracted after a lifetime of smoking and drinking.

But things are changing and Dr. Korenman is seeing an increase in Oral Cancer in patients of all ages and lifestyles.

Don’t feel immune because you don’t smoke or drink.

Dentists are often the first line of defense against oral cancer, through the process of early discovery. They help find cancer at its earliest stage, when the chances for successful treatment are highest.

An Oral Cancer Screening takes less than 15 minutes and should be a part of everyone’s annual health appointments.

Dr. Korenman uses the ViziLite Plus, which is a 5-minute test that uses fluorescent light to help dentists spot abnormal changes in the mucous membranes that line the inside of the mouth anred ribbond throat.

Additionally, Dr. Korenman will go over the patient’s medical history, check for any discolorations (red spots, white spots, ulcers etc) and/or abnormal lumps around the oral tissues (cheeks, hard palate, tongue, floor of the mouth, back of throat etc), face and neck.

We simply use a 2×2 gauze, mirror and a special light to inspect the oral/pharyngeal area. We will palpitate/massage the neck and throat area to check for any abnormal lumps (checking the Thyroid area as well).

The entire screening takes less than 15 minutes and is completely painless.

Father’s Day Dental Care Tips for Dads

If you’re the man of the house, you probably think that dental health is the last thing on your priority list. Today’s dads are busy with their careers, kid’s (or grandkid’s) activities and “Honey Do” lists.

However, if you want to be healthy for your family, you must take care of your teeth.Attentive Man

Dr. Mayo of Mayo Clinic has explained, “Having a healthy mouth can add 10 years to your life.”

Medication
Does dad take any kind of heart medication including blood pressure or cholesterol meds?

These medications are notorious for causing dry mouth and inhibiting salivary flow. The flow of saliva is crucial for washing away the germs that cause cavities, so dry mouth is bacteria’s playground!

Dad should have regular checkups to manage his Dry Mouth symptoms, chew sugarless gum and swish with water on a regular basis.

Diabetes
Is dad Diabetic?

The statistics about Diabetes and dental care are startling:diabatic man

  1. Uncontrolled Type II Diabetics are at a higher risk for gum disease.
  2. Severe gum disease can affect blood sugar.
  3. Diabetics have a decreased ability to fight bacteria that invade the gums.
  4. Medication can cause dry mouth which can cause soreness, ulcers, infections and cavities.
  5. A dry mouth can exacerbate the side effects of diabetes, which will then lead to an increase in glucose levels, wreaking havoc on the body.
  6. Having a dry mouth, especially as a diabetic, can lead to rampant tooth decay, which means blood sugar increases as the body tries, and fails, to fight infection.
  7. Sometimes if the blood glucose levels are higher than they should be, the result is dry mouth.

Once again, it’s important to maintain regular dental care appointments to avoid the inflammation, gum disease and decay that can be caused by Diabetes and medication.

Dental Coward
We know dads have a reputation for being the “tough guy” but even “tough guys” can dread visiting the dentist. Many men have had bad experiences at the dentist and understandably avoid dental exams.

Dr. Korenman and his staff understand dental fear and they are dedicated to reversing the trend of miserable dental experiences. He will never cause his patients pain and he listens to all of their concerns.

If it’s been some time or even a long time since dad’s last appointment, we want him to know that we never will scold him or make him feel guilty because we are just glad to see him.

We are here to serve our patients for a healthy future.

Is Dad Missing Teeth? Here’s the Dangerous Domino Effect

An estimated 30 million American adults live with one or more missing teeth. (That’s one out of every 4 drivers on the road.)

Is your dad or husband one of them?man missing tooth

A missing tooth has a dangerous domino effect on his mouth.

When natural teeth are removed there is additional damage which goes well beyond the surface of the gums.

  • The bone that once supported and surrounded those roots starts to deteriorate painlessly.
  • Other teeth start to shift.
  • If you are missing a bottom tooth, the top tooth that chews on it is going to drift down.
  • The teeth on either side of a missing tooth will slowly start to lean into that gap.
  • When teeth don’t line up right, they don’t have the proper stress distributions, so they are getting overworked and over-stressed which causes them to be at risk or lost as well.

The bad news is that you don’t feel this domino effect.  Unfortunately, over time this misalignment can make it difficult to keep your teeth clean which can contribute to cavities and gum disease.

Imagine a brick archway. photo brick archway

If you take a brick out of an archway and come back in a year, you won’t be able to put that brick back in its place because everything has settled a bit.

Perhaps the archway hasn’t fallen down, but it’s certainly not going to last as long as the arch with all the bricks in place.

When you have multiple missing teeth, bone reabsorption occurs, which causes the face to collapse. These changes can become so severe they make the person look many years older than they actually are.

Dr. Korenman of Loveable Smiles can help with dental implants to replace missing teeth.

The advancements in dental implants over the years are life changing.

Simply stated, dental implants reconnect people with what they’ve lost. Youth. Self-esteem. Confidence. Function. Happiness. The joy of kissing!

Dental implants look natural, produce a beautiful smile, and allow you to eat, speak and function as you did when your mouth was healthy.

Only 12% of general dentists in the US place implants. 5% of those use the most updated form of technology.

Dr. Korenman has that technology.11002620_861074030601651_865004048774769856_n

He has invested in NewTom VG3 Dental CAT-scan which allows Dr. Korenman to view an anatomically accurate 3D image of your mouth. It provides the most comprehensive and accurate information required to determine your bone quantity and quality for possible dental implants. If teeth have been missing for some time he can see how much bone loss has occurred and determine what type of bone grafting may be needed.

With Dental CT scanning, implant procedures can be planned in detail before any surgery takes place. This means virtually no surprises when Dr. Korenman performs surgery.

With the advances in implant dentistry now available from Loveable Smiles, dad can soon be eating what he wants, when he wants, and where he wants.

His facial muscle tone will be restored. He’ll put 20 years of life back in his smile.

For more information, please call Loveable Smiles in Richardson at (972) 231-0585 and schedule your dad or husband a complimentary consultation.

Busy Mom Of 3 Shares Her Oral Cancer Screening Experience

I am a busy mom of 3 and today I made the time to get an Oral Cancer Screening at Loveable Smiles in Richardson. I am not a smoker or a drinker but this is an important health screening. Oral Cancer is on the rise and since multiple types of Cancer run in my family, I wanted to take advantage of this simple screening.Oral Cancer collage

The first thing I had to do was swish with the ViziLite pre-rinse solution. It was a little vinegary, but not bad.

Then Chessa the hygienist used the fluorescent light to help spot any abnormal changes. She was very thorough and looked in all the “oral cervices” where Oral Cancer likes to hide: under my tongue and in between my cheeks and gums. She then palpitated/massaged my neck and throat area.

Dr. Korenman then came in and checked as well. He also used the fluorescent light and checked my lymph nodes for any tenderness or abnormal lumps.

The entire procedure was completely painless and took less than 15 minutes!

I am happy to report that I am Oral Cancer FREE!

I highly encourage you to schedule your free Oral Cancer screening at Loveable Smiles.  So many Cancers are much more treatable when they are caught early.  This simple procedure can give you peace of mind!
